Hello, everyone welcome to a new blog. Today I will share the story of a student with low GPA and from non-targeted school how he got into google. so let's start.
Hello, my name is Phoenix, and in this video, I want to talk to you about some of the difficulties that come with having a low GPA and some advice on how to get through them. But before I get started, let me tell you a little about myself. I'm now a senior at Pennsylvania's Lehigh University. The biggest issue with a low GPA is that getting your foot in the door is challenging. I'm a software engineer majoring in computer science with a 2.7 GPA, and I will transfer to Google next semester.
Even if you have the necessary skills, there are times when you won't even get the chance to demonstrate them because recruiters will simply look at your GPA and toss your resume in the trash. This is especially true if you aren't from a top school like CMU or MIT, where even if you go to their schools and have a low GPA, chances are you'll probably get an opportunity to interview at least.
Before I discuss how you can overcome that, I want to discuss something else. I believe that right now, actually, almost everyone believes that there is a significant difference between CS and other fields. Even if they are not prepared, they get more practice than you because they know what to learn, what to study, what to look for and eventually become better at it through training.
Many people debate whether it's a good idea to have our CS interview process be so far removed from both our CSS education and the real world. However, if you grind, delete code and do your work, and honestly focus on getting good at these coding interviews, you can compe
te with the best students at MIT and the best at CMU because the field is level for everyone.
First and first, do anything to get an actual name on your CV someplace, whether it's like Amazon, Microsoft, or whatever. Just have some type of name there on your resume. It doesn't have to be like an internship. It could be anything almost totally random, but the goal of this is that it gets it past the keyword-generating checkers that whatever recruiters are using, so for me, during my freshman year, I applied to become a Microsoft student partner at my school, and although
There is a cascading effect of having something on your resume, and another thing that I want to stress is grindingly code. My internship with Amazon during my junior summer helped me get interviews with some of these more prominent companies, and that's how I eventually let you get interviews at most of the big tech companies I applied to. I've assisted many of my friends with how to grind code, and I've observed that people often don't study properly. Instead, they frequently simply stare at the issue for a few minutes.
And then after they finish, if they can't figure it out, they just sort of look at the answer, go, oh yeah, oh, so that's how you do it, and then they move on. But, still, no, that's completely incorrect because this way, sure, you might learn the answer to that specific question, but by not implementing it, you're kind of learning how to just do that particular question instead of learning how to solve an entire class of problems so what I recommend would be something like after you start a prob like this:
Instead of learning how to solve that one problem, you should learn how to solve an entire class of the issues, such as DP, linked list, binary search, that first search, or anything similar.
I hope it will help you to find you dream job in big tech companies like google, Microsoft, Amazon, LinkedIn, or any of your dream company.
